Nine out of ten patients will learn about the presence of chronic kidney disease when they receive a direction for dialysis or kidney transplantation. Why is the disease detected only in a neglected state and is it possible to protect yourself from CBP?

AIF.ru told about this Associate Professor of the Moscow State Medical and Dental Institute. Evdokimova, candidate of medical sciences Valery Shilo.

– The term chronic kidney disease was proposed in 2002, which was dictated by medical necessity. The kidney disease in the early stages often does not manifest itself. Symptoms subsequently appear, but they are non -specific, a person can be disturbed by weakness, passing swelling (on the face, legs), even later – nausea, lack of appetite. If a person does not consult doctors, these symptoms can be unnoticed for years. As a result, the kidneys are reduced in size, lose their normal structure, and their work is disturbed. At the same time, 9 out of 10 patients learn about their problem when the question arises of the need for replacement renal therapy (dialysis) or organ transplantation. When such a patient gets to the doctor, a chronic kidney disease is diagnosed to him, which means a gradual and irreversible deterioration in the function of the organ, which can develop for many years.

Chronic kidney disease at the terminal stage is an irreversible condition that requires the use of expensive treatment methods. For example, dialysis “eats” a third of the budget of the day hospital, not to mention the fact that the replacement of the renal therapy “binds” the patient to the clinic (the procedure is required to carry out three times a week, and each lasts 4–5 hours), which seriously changes a person’s mobility and life prospects. The only opportunity to avoid this is to timely detect kidney disease.
