A patient with a kidney transplanted pork lives more than 60 days after surgery. Previously, this was considered the maximum life expectancy for patients with organs transplanted from pig. How long can pork kidney work in the human body?

53-year-old American Moons Pork buds were transplanted on November 25, 2024. Before that, the patient has been on dialysis for eight years. The kidney transplant from the donor in her case was impossible: the woman had a high level of antibodies, which spoke of the “rejection” of the kidney from the human donor. As a result, the doctors decided to transplant the patient’s genetically modified pigeon of the pig, the animal genes were disconnected in the organ to prevent it from rejection by the body.

This is the third similar operation, before that pork buds were transplanted to two more patients who lived after the operation for about two months.

So far, Touan Luni goes to the record, which is possibly explained by the fact that the initial state of health was better than that of other patients.

The doctor, who carried out a transplant, assured that the transplanted kidney works “absolutely normal”, and plans to let the patient from New York to Alabama, where she lives, plans to let go in a month. However, doctors have not yet given long -term forecasts regarding how long the transplanted kidney will work. In case of an organ refusal, the patient is planned to be returned to dialysis again.

Can a transplant of animal organs close the needs for donor authorities?

“In order to transplant an animal organ, it is necessary to conduct genetic modification, the purpose of which is to remove tissue incompatibility,” said AIF.ru Chief Forest Transplantologist of the Ministry of Health, Director of the NMIC of transplantology and artificial bodies named after Academician Shumakov, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Sergey Gauthier. – Another obstacle is animal infections that can be transferred to the human body during transplantation. After transplantation, patients need to take large doses of immunosuppressants (in order to avoid the rejection of organs), their immunity is reduced, which becomes fertile soil for the spread of such infections.

It was from such infections that two patients with an animal transplanted heart have previously died. Until this problem is resolved, organs transplant from animals will not be massive. ”
