The most loud news from Turkey: more than 300 people were poisoned by foul alcohol, 103 – died, 230 – hospitalized. Many are horrified by such scale. But the situation is really worse.
In fact, this is not one large outbreak, but somewhat smaller. And it means that it is even more dangerous: in Turkey, carbon alcohol is systematically produced and every tourist can run into it.
The police regularly eliminate producers of dangerous alcohol and merchants. But there are dozens of others outside the field of her vision – there is a system and conditions for its existence. So, you can expect new victims.
Chronicle of poisoning from December to February
In early February, in Ankara, more than 30 people died due to fake alcohol poisoning. In January, even larger events took place in Istanbul – at least 40 people died there in a month. A wave of poisoning due to alcohol with methanol here started immediately after the New Year. By January 16, there were 34 dead and many people still remained in intensive care. In only three days in the middle of the month, 30 people died, they bought alcohol in different areas of Istanbul. There were many tourists among them, especially from Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. By the way, among the manufacturers of alcohol with methanol, their fellow countrymen from Turkmenistan were detained.
December was also troubled, only 48 victims of counterfeit were killed in Istanbul. In only one of the outbreaks, 23 people died in two days.
Sea, sun and fired alcohol
But the problem with counterfeiting is relevant not only for the capital, but also for all regions of the republic, reports Kommersant FM with reference to its correspondent in Turkey Abdurahmana Kambur-Oglu: “Alcohol poisoning is one of the existing problems in Turkey. In recent years, prices for strong drinks have risen very much, people themselves are looking for ways and produce their alcohol. ”
The production of counterfeit alcohol arises high excise taxes on alcohol and severe inflation. They were firmly punished, giving long time, but their business flourishes throughout the country.

How to be our tourists for whom travel to Turkey is a favorite thing? They should use the advice of the English Foreign Office. Probably knowing that the subjects of His Majesty are inclined to get drunk not to be half death, but to the wax, they decided to lay straws. Therefore, seven days ago, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development of Great Britain, preoccupied with an increasing amount of alcoholic poisoning in the port, officially published the following tips:
“In Turkey, including in Ankara and Istanbul, people were dying or seriously poisoned after the use of illegal local alcohol and fake signature alcohol.
To protect yourself:
– buy alcoholic beverages only in licensed alcohol stores;
– buy drinks only in licensed bars and hotels;
– Avoid drinking alcoholic beverages;
