A new study of Harvard doctors showed that the use of yogurt for breakfast as a beneficial effect on the state of the intestine. Moreover, even from the point of view of oncoprotective action.

Heal the intestines

The cancer of the large intestine occupies a leading position in the list of cancer. Moreover, it is often noted that now he is younger. Doctors see one of the reasons for the development of such a problem, that harmful bacteria lining the intestines constantly negatively affect it and stimulate the growth of cancer cells.

In this case, the intestines can be improved. Doctors found that those who eat at least two servings of yogurt per week for breakfast can reduce the risk of developing such a disease by 20 %. As part of the work, experts studied tumors caused by bifidobacteria – this type of microorganisms is usually involved in the digestion of fiber and preventing infections. But their overabundance can cause inflammation in the intestines, which is why the cells degenerate and become malignant.

What the statistics are talking about

Scientists suggested that useful bacteria in enzymatic products, including yogurt, help reduce the number of harmful bacteria. Because of this, the risk of cancer is less. True, the doctors did not find the connection with the types of cancer caused by the bacterial component, and the doctors did not find yogurt. But still, one of the risk factors for the development of this type of cancer patients can be taken into account and warned.

The participants in the study filled out questionnaires in which they prescribed their nutrition, lifestyle and use yogurt. In 3079 people were diagnosed with colorectal cancer. Scientists took samples of tumors and checked them for the content of bacteria. And they found the necessary data in 1121. 31 % of the tumors from this number was positive on Bifidobacterium.

Now, doctors need additional studies that will help to understand the protective mechanism of yogurt.
