Victims of science. Nature: Five days on sweet and fatty affect the brain and liver

If a healthy person without obesity sits only five days on an ultra -laid food, his brain and liver change. This was proved in a serious experimental study published in Nature Metabolism.

The magazine is published in the authoritative scientific publishing house Nature (“Neush”).

The results were surprised even by scientists

“I did not expect healthy people the effect would be so obvious,” commented on his research with surprise Neurobiologist Stefani Kullmann From the Tubingen University in Germany, she led the experiment.

Scientists studied 29 healthy male volunteers aged 17-29 with normal weight. 18 of them for five days received an additional 1,500 kcal in the form of ultra -continued products. For every day they were given special sets, including chocolate bars, cakes, chips and other food, rich in fats and carbohydrates (sugar). By the way, not everyone could eat all this, on average people used an additional 1200 kcal per day. The rest of the men entered the control group, they ate as usual.

Something there in the brain …

In just five days, unhealthy food led to changes in the brain and liver, typical of obesity. But the weight itself has not increased markedly over these days.

The brain was studied using functional magnetic resonance imaging (FMRT). And to evaluate the activity of its different departments, a test was carried out with the introduction of insulin into the nose – hence it hit the brain in a direct way.

And here is the verdict of scientists: even short -term overeating of calorie sweet and fatty foods causes persistent changes in the brain that contribute to the development of obesity and related diseases.

And something in the liver

In the liver there was an accumulation of fat. This is typical for NAZBP (non -alcoholic fatty liver disease) – a true satellite of obesity and diabetes of the second type. That is, even five days on sweet and fat, they lay the way to these diseases.

“The rapid development of signs of NAZBP with such nutrition was shown in research earlier,” AIF.ru comments on a scientific article A hepatologist, doctor of medical sciences, professor of the first Moscow State Medical University named after I.M. Sechenova, leading researcher of Monica named after M.F. Vladimirsky, President of the Evidence Medicine Fund Alexei Bueverov. – In particular, such a connection with fast food was shown. In that experiment, NAZBP developed among young volunteers when they ate fast food twice a day. Some even joined the liver inflammation. It often accompanies NAZBP and makes its current heavier.

Conclusions from such studies are obvious: eating ultra -processed products and fast food is really harmful. This is especially important to consider when nutrition of children and people with obesity, diabetes of the second type, with a violation of lipid metabolism that abuse alcohol. ”
